Parola is the bi-monthly publication of PSAP with a distribution of over 10,000. To many seafarers, Parola is PSAP and PSAP is Parola. Throughout the years, Parola has given company to thousands of seafarers and their families, providing news, information, advice, and a platform for them to link-up or keep in touch with one another.
Some of its contents are written by seafarers themselves, making a truly participatory project among seafarers. Parola seeks to update seafarers about developments in the Philippines and in the shipping world as well. It also tries to educate seafarers by bringing them into contact with each other and by encouraging them to share their individual experiences. Moreover, it tries to assist the efforts of seafarers to keep in touch with their family back home. In sending copies to their loved ones back home, the seafarers are also able to educate their families on the realities of working abroad.
Parola has special sections trying to offer advice and answer questions raised by seafarers. It also offers discussion and reflections on spirituality. Buhay Marino is a section devoted to the seafarer's experiences, partly culled from the data gathered during ship visitation. The Poems and Joke sections are kept alive by the enormous contributions of poets and comics, from among the seafarers themselves.
Parola is a publication for Filipino seafarers and by Filipino seafarers. Articles, poems, notes, jokes, anecdotes, greetings and messages are regularly contributed by seafarers, from all over the world.
