THE PHILIPPINE SEAFARERS ASSISTANCE PROGRAMME

Profile

Philippine Seafarers Assistance ProgrammeThe Philippine Seafarers Assistance Programme (PSAP) is a non-stock, non-profit foundation registered with the Chamber of Commerce in Rotterdam. Founded in 1981, PSAP aims to support Filipino seafarers, as well as seafarers from the developing world, in their continuing struggle for better working and living conditions.

The programmes and services of the PSAP include awareness raising on human and workers rights for seafarers, health education, particularly on AIDS prevention, capacity-building, and multi-cultural cooperation. The port-based assistance activities of PSAP range from providing humanitarian provisions to facilitating socio-cultural and sports activities. PSAP is also actively engaged in think-tank research and in a host of advocacy undertakings, at the local, national and international levels.

PSAP publishes PAROLA, a bi-monthly newsletter distributed to over 10,000 Filipino seafarers and their families.

PSAP is a member of the International Christian Maritime Association (ICMA) and the International Committee on Seafarers Welfare (ICSW).
