7-11 March 2005
Kaohsiung, Taiwan
The 2nd ICMA Far East Chaplains Conference was held at the Splendor Hotel in the port city of Kaohsiung, the maritime capital of Taiwan. ICMA delegates met on the theme “Crossroads Asia: ICMA where are you going?”, with particular focus on maritime ministry issues involving fishers and the fishing industry in the region. There were some 45 participants coming from around a dozen countries.
The ICMA conference was also the occasion for the delegates to elect a regional ICMA coordinator, in the person of Fr. Bruno Ciceri. Fr. Bruno, Director of the Stella Maris-Apostleship of the Sea International Center in Kaohsiung, was the local organizer of the Meeting.
Philippine delegates included Fr. Vicente Romanos of AOS San Fernando La Union, Fr. Savino Bernardi and Sr. Shirley Torrente of AOS Manila, Sr. Dominadora Salar, AOS Cebu, and Fr. Jack Walsh of AOS Davao, the outgoing ICMA regional coordinator.
PSAP (which is also a member of ICMA) was represented by its Programme Manager Peter Payoyo. Dr. Payoyo attended the meeting to deliver a presentation for and on behalf of the London-based International Committee on Seafarers’ Welfare (ICSW) in the context of the ICSW’s preparations for a regional seminar to be held in the Southeast Asian region in 2007.
