EUROPE WIDE CONSULTATION
ON ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT OF OVERSEAS FILIPINO WORKERS

On November 27-30, 2003 a Europe-wide consultation of Filipino migrant organizations was held in Amsterdam. The theme of this regional meeting was “New Approaches to Migrant Empowerment – Maximizing Savings and Economic Initiatives”. It was convened by PSAP together with the Commission on Filipino Migrant Workers (Amsterdam), and Unlad Kabayan Migrant Services (Philippines), with the coopeation of DIWATA (Greece), PASALI (Netherlands) and KINABUKASAN (Italy). At the end of the meeting, a Declaration entitled “Towards a Filipino Migrant Economic Development Agenda” was adopted, containing a two-year work programme. The consultation was an immediate follow up to the International Conference held in Bohol on October 2003 which considered the theme “OFW Savings, Remittances and Economic Potential: A Challenge to Governance, Partnership and Development”. This historic conference was jointly organized by PSAP, OWWA, UNLAD KABAYAN, The Asian Migrant Center, PHILCORE and the Forum for Filipno Reintegration and Savings Groups.
